Process development for green part printing using binder jetting additive manufacturing

摘要:

Originally developed decades ago, the binder jetting additive manufacturing (BJ-AM) process possesses various advantages compared to other additive manufacturing (AM) technologies such as broad material compatibility and technological expandability. However, the adoption of BJ-AM has been limited by the lack of knowledge with the fundamental understanding of the process principles and characteristics, as well as the relatively few systematic design guideline that are available. In this work, the process design considerations for BJ-AM in green part fabrication were discussed in detail in order to provide a comprehensive perspective of the design for additive manufacturing for the process. Various process factors, including binder saturation, in-process drying, powder spreading, powder feedstock characteristics, binder characteristics and post-process curing, could significantly affect the printing quality of the green parts such as geometrical accuracy and part integrity. For powder feedstock with low flowability, even though process parameters could be optimized to partially offset the printing feasibility issue, the qualities of the green parts will be intrinsically limited due to the existence of large internal voids that are inaccessible to the binder. In addition, during the process development, the balanced combination between the saturation level and in-process drying is of critical importance in the quality control of the green parts.

Toward the development of process plans with reduced environmental impacts

Manufacturing process planning serves as a pivotal link between design and manufacturing. Process planning decisions play a critical role in determining the cost and environmental impacts associated with manufacturing. Past efforts to address environmental issues during process planning are briefly reviewed and potential approaches that can achieve reduced environmental impacts are then discussed. A proposed method is presented for environmentally conscious process planning. The method begins with an existing process plan, and then identifies impactful process steps, and associated design features, in terms of manufacturing cost and environmental impact. Alternative processes that can achieve these features are then considered to generate alternative process plans. These alternatives are then evaluated in terms of economic and environmental performance. The results of these evaluations are then used to generate a set of process plans that are non-dominated with respect to manufacturing cost and environmental impact objectives to produce a Pareto frontier. The proposed method is demonstrated using the manufacturing of a prosthetic hip shell as a case study.

Decision support for the development, simulation and optimization of dynamic process models

摘要: Simulation is besides experimentation the major method for designing, analyzing and optimizing chemical processes. The ability of simulations to reflect real process behavior strongly depends on model quality. Validation and adaption of process models are usually based on available plant data. Using such a model in various simulation and optimization studies can support the process designer in his task. Beneath steady state models there is also a growing demand for dynamic models either to adapt faster to changing conditions or to reflect batch operation. In this contribution challenges of extending an existing decision support framework for steady state models to dynamic models will be discussed and the resulting opportunities will be demonstrated for distillation and reactor examples.

Discussion on advanced manufacturing

摘要: Advanced manufacturing consists of continuity of manufacturing, its broad sense, and the core of the manufacturing process. The technology of continuous manufacturing is discussed according to both historical and modern perspectives. The relationship between human development and manufacturing technology is also discussed. Manufacturing is a continuously evolving topic. It is not only the foundation and means of imagination, conception, the science, and the technology of material change, but also the expression of national economy, national defense, and the support industries. The broad sense of manufacturing theory, which extends the concept of manufacturing, is an important development in the 20th century. The sense is analyzed in connection with design, material forming theory, synthesis of manufacturing technology, manufacturing modes, life cycle of product, hardware and software, and support environment, etc. At the same time, the core action and the development of the theory and technology of process is also discussed. At the end of this paper, the development directions of mechanical manufacturing science and technology are mentioned.

流程工业智能优化制造

摘要:

本文在分析流程工业的特点、运行现状和国际智能制造发展状况的基础上,提出了我国流程工业智能制造的新模式——智能优化制造。在分析流程企业采用的由企业资源计划、制造执行系统、过程控制系统组成的三层架构和控制与管理信息化系统的发展状况基础上,提出了未来流程企业应采用的智能优化制造的架构和系统愿景功能,分析了实现愿景功能所需要攻克的关键共性技术和对自动化、计算机和通信、数据科学挑战的科学问题,提出了突出流程工业战略地位、实施战略规划与顶层设计等发展流程工业智能优化制造的建议。

Utilizing melt crystallization fundamentals in the development of a new tabletting technology

摘要: Increasing production effeciency and lowering costs are some of the many advantages melt crystallization technology offers over the conventional methodology of tabletting. A normal tablet consists of a pure shell or a coat and a separate core constituting the pharmaceutical active ingredient. Great emphasis is put on the purity of the shell since its purpose is to solely protect and deliver the active ingredient to its target. Melt crystallization is a purification (separation) process. It is discussed here for its ability to produce coated tablets, by separating the “coating” material from the “to be coated” material coming from one molten mixture. Molten drops of lutrol-ibuprofen mixture are produced using the drop forming technique. The subsequent analysis involves proving and quantifying the phase separation (coat purity). The mechanism of a crystallizing drop is shown as direct evidence of the ongoing process. Moreover, solidified tablet batches are analyzed for the purity of their coating by measuring the ibuprofen concentration. This optimization process is carried out through multiple stages of development and condition enhancements in order to produce the most pure tablet coating. As a result, a trial showing an almost purely coated tablet is presented here.

再制造正处在产业发展的初期阶段,在产业化过程中面临着来自社会、政策、技术、管理等层面的压力。从再制造产业发展的实际出发,针对再制造产业化过程中的若干关键管理问题进行研究。结合企业开展再制造业务的关注点及再制造产业未来的发展趋势,重点研究企业开展再制造业务的风险管理、再制造生产管理、再制造质量管理、再制造认证认可及再制造绩效考核等内容,分析其各自特点,并提出相应的对策。

Research and development of hydrocracking catalysts and technologies in China

Hydrocracking of petroleum feedstock represents a compelling route for the production of industrial clean fuels, which has triggered the continuous research and development of core technology related areas such as catalysts, reaction engineering and engineering design. This review particularly focuses on the research and development of catalysts and catalytic processes for hydrocracking of petroleum feedstock in China. Hydroprocessing technologies of China keep pace with the up-to-date progress of the world, and some of the technologies have achieved leading role in the world. It is noted that China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation has a full range of hydroprocessing technologies and provides corresponding “tailor-made” catalysts. Through the efforts of several generations, 20 categories of the catalysts including more than 60 brands have been developed, among which more than 40 brands have been successfully applied for more than 130 times. Importantly, the pivotal technical improvements including the deep drawing vacuum gas-oil (VGO) and de-asphalting oil hydrocracking technology to improve material adaptability, the high value-added hydrogenation technology to convert high aromatic diesel conversion to naphtha, the hydrocracking technology using VGO-catalytic diesel blends, the Fushun Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals’ diesel to gasoline and diesel hydrocracking technologies, and the Sheer hydrocracking technology to reduce energy are reviewed.

Evaluation of ecosystem health for regional development in the southwestern Beijing, China

摘要: Ecosystem health assessment is one of the most important issues in regional ecological quality and safety studies. It also has a great significance to ecological conservation and regional development. This study focused on assessing the health status of forest, agriculture and urban ecosystems in the southwestern Beijing, China, including the Fangshan and Fengtai Districts. Based on field surveys and data collection, an assessment index system containing the vigor, organization and resilience factors was developed to measure the ecosystem health. Each index was scored from 1 to 5, representing five levels that contribute to the whole ecosystem health. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to measure the weights of each index and three factors, and thus an overall score for a certain ecosystem was calculated. The results show that the forest ecosystem in the Fangshan District had higher health value than the Fengtai District, while the urban ecosystem had a slightly lower value in the Fangshan District than the Fengtai District. Both districts show lower resilience values in forest and urban ecosystems. Maintaining the ecosystem health will definitely benefit the long-term development of two districts. This study suggested that an approach for assessing the regional ecosystem health could be further developed to address spatial and synergy relationships between ecosystems and the three health factors.

高心墙堆石坝填筑施工过程实时监控系统研发与应用

摘要:

文章针对高心墙堆石坝填筑施工特点,建立了过程控制指标体系,确定了过程监控方法,提出了解决方案,研制开发了具有实时性、高精度、自动化、全天候等特点的大坝填筑施工过程监控系统,实现土石料上坝运输过程、坝面填筑碾压过程的实时监控。该系统应用于亚洲第一高土石坝——糯扎渡心墙堆石坝的施工现场,建立了以监控系统为核心的施工过程控制体系,对大坝填筑施工的主要环节实现精细化的全天候实时监控,有效地控制了大坝填筑施工参数,提高了施工过程的质量控制水平与效率。

Development of lunar regolith composite and structure via laser-assisted sintering

摘要: Aiming at the exploration and resource utilization activities on the Moon, in situ resource utilization and in situ manufacturing are proposed to minimize the dependence on the ground transportation supplies. In this paper, a laser-assisted additive manufacturing process is developed to fabricate lunar regolith composites with PA12/SiO2 mixing powders. The process parameters and composite material compositions are optimized in an appropriate range through orthogonal experiments to establish the relationship of process–structure–property for lunar regolith composites. The optimal combination of composite material compositions and process parameters are mixing ratio of 50/50 in volume, laser power of 30 W, scanning speed of 3500 mm/s, and scanning hatch space of 0.2 mm. The maximum tensile strength of lunar regolith composites reaches 9.248 MPa, and the maximum depth of surface variation is 120.79 μm, which indicates poor powder fusion and sintering quality. Thereafter, the mechanical properties of laser-sintered lunar regolith composites are implemented to the topology optimization design of complex structures. The effectiveness and the feasibility of this laser-assisted process are potentially developed for future lightweight design and manufacturing of the solar panel installed on the lunar rover.
